Prof. Dr. Serap Derman
The Principal Investigator of the Derman'S Lab
Serap DERMAN received her BSc degree in 2003 from Yildiz Technical University Faculty of Science-Chemistry Department and in 2008 Chemical Engineering Department. Completed her MSc degree in 2006 and the Ph.D. degree in 2012 in Bioengineering Programme at Yildiz Technical University. Serap DERMAN received the title of Associate Professor in the field of Bioengineering in March 2017. She is the Principal Investigator of the Derman'S Lab.

Dr. Burcu Uçar Acar
She completed her B.Sc. studies in the Department of Chemistry at Trakya University in 2009. She continued her master studies in the Department of Analytical Chemistry at Istanbul Technical University in 2011. From 2012 to 2018, she worked as the Head of Synthesis and Radioimmunoassay Laboratories in the Department of Nuclear Medicine&Molecular Imaging at the American Hospital and received her Ph.D. degree in the Bioengineering Department of Yıldız Technical University. She continues her post-doctoral researches at Hacettepe University in Department of Nuclear Medicine&Molecular Imaging and YTU in Department of Bioengineering with the clinical supports of Koc University Hospital and American Hospital.

Dr. Tayfun Acar
Tayfun Acar received his BSc degree from Yildiz Technical University Faculty of Science Chemistry Department (2012) and MSc degree in Bioengineering Department at Yildiz Technical University under the supervision of Dr. Zeynep Mustafaeva Akdeste (2015). He is currently continuing his Ph.D. studies on the topic of synthesis and characterization of synthetic peptide-polymer conjugates and nanoformulations against Ebola Virus. His research interest covers microwave assisted solid phase peptide synthesis, synthetic peptide vaccines, polymeric nano- and micro-particles.

Dr. Pelin Pelit Arayıcı
She graduated from Yıldız Technical University, Faculty of Science and Letters, Department of Chemistry and Anadolu University, Department of Business Administration in 2012. In January 2015, she received her master's degrees in Bioengineering from Yildiz Technical University. Pelin is a Ph.D. candidate in the Bioengineering department at the Yıldız Technical University. She worked as a lecturer at Üsküdar University between 2017-2018. She has been working as a lecturer at Yıldız Technical University since 2018. Her research topics focus on the bioconjugation reactions and nanoparticle systems.

MSc. Elif Kahveci
Between 2007-2009, she completed her master degree in Istanbul Technical University, Institute of Science, Department of Chemistry. In 2016, she started her Ph.D. studies at the Bioengineering Department of Yıldız Technical University. Her research interests include functional polymers, controlled polymerization techniques and tetrazine-Click chemistry.

MSc. Gülşah Bakırdöğen
She graduated from Yıldız Technical University, Faculty of Science and Letters, Department of Chemistry in 2013. In 2016, she received her masters degree in Yıldız Technical University, Institute of Science, Department of Organic Chemistry. In 2016, she started her Ph.D. studies at the Bioengineering Department of Yıldız Technical University. Her research interests include drug delivery systems, bioorthogonal chemistry, nanoparticle synthesis, tetrazine Diels-Alder Click reaction, polymer and bio-conjugated polymer synthesis.

PhD(c) Nilbeste Boncukçu
She started to study at the Department of Bioengineering in Yıldız Technical University, in 2007 and then continue with the education of master’s Department of Stem Cell and tissue regeneration, in 2012. After a few years of research on gene therapy, supported by TÜBİTAK, she has gained MSc title. Then she continued with her education of doctorate at Department of Bioengineering in Yıldız Technical University. Here, she has awarded a scholarship on the field of biomaterials and tissue engineering. She is interested in the research areas of drug-carriers, controlled releasing systems, cell-material interactions, stem cells, gene transfer, and molecular mechanisms.

PhD(c) Merve Kara
She graduated from Yıldız Technical University, Department of Chemistry in 2010. In 2015, she received her masters degree in Yıldız Technical University, Institute of Science, Department of Inorganic Chemistry. She had worked as a manager in a Science Center for children for 2 years. She started Ph.D. programme at the Bioengineering Department of Yıldız Technical University in 2016. Her research interests include phthalocyanines, photodynamic therapy, carbon quatum dots, controlled releasing systems and polymeric nanoparticles.

MSc. İmren Torun
İmren Torun graduated from Gebze Technical University, Faculty of Science, Department of Physics in 2013. In 2015, she started her master education in the Physics department at Gebze technical University. In January 2019, she received her master's degrees. She worked on production and development of ZnO-based sensors within the scope of "Development of Chemical Sensor Sequence for Biomarker Molecular Detection in Breaths" (TUBITAK-1001) and Production and development of In2O3 based sensors within the scope of the project of "Development of Nanostructured Metal Oxide Microsensors for the Diagnosis of Diabetes with Breath Analysis" (G.T.Ü.BAP/GTÜ–SÜ–02). In February 2019, she started her Ph.D. in bioengineering department of Yıldız Technical University.

PhD(c) Seçil Kaya
She graduated from the Bioengineering Department at Gaziosmanpasa University in 2015. She completed her undergraduate thesis with the support of TÜBİTAK 2209-B. She continues her studies on antimicrobial wound dressings, nanofibers, electrospinning, polymerization and green synthesis at the Bioengineering Department at Yildiz Technical University as a Master of Science student. Her master thesis is supported by TÜBİTAK 2210-C scholarship program. She started pursuing her PhD degree at the same department in 2019.

MSc Balım Bengisu Karacaoğlu
She graduated from the Bioengineering Department at Yıldız Technical University in 2016. She completed her undergraduate thesis with the support of TÜBİTAK 2209-B. She started a startup company who are developing biosensors in her 3rd class. They have developed a biosensor which can be used in the diagnosis of various diseases in animals. Balım is responsible for research, development, and production at the firm. She continues of her Master study at YTU.

PhD(c) Buşra Akgül
Buşra AKGÜL graduated from the Department of Bioengineering at Fırat University in 2015. She received her master's degree in Bioengineering from Fırat University in 2018. In February 2019, she started Ph.D. programme at Yıldız Technical University, Department of Bioengineering. She is a YÖK 100/2000 scholarship holder in the priority field of Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering. Her research interests include controlled drug release systems, adsorption kinetics and thermodynamics, biomaterials and tissue engineering, cell-material interactions, and in vitro viability analysis.

MSc Ekin Bahar Gezer
She graduated from Yıldız Technical University, Faculty of Science and Letters, Department of Chemistry in June 2018. In September 2018, she started to study MSc. degree in Bioengineering from Yildiz Technical University. She interested in organic chemistry, nanoparticles, drug carriers and drug release systems. She is mainly working with HPLC.

MSc(c) Melis Işık
She graduated from Marmara University Department of Bioengineering in June of 2018. As an undergraduate thesis, she investigated multidrug resistance in Bacillus subtilis against natural antimicrobials by using HPLC and synergetic effect of these antimicrobials on the growth of Bacillus subtilis. She has started Master of Science in the Department of Bioengineering of Yıldız Technical University in September of 2018.

MSc(c) İrem Çoksu
She has graduated from the Department of Bioengineering at Yıldız Technical University in 2019. She completed her undergraduate thesis titled ‘Production and Antifungal Activity of Ketokonazole-Loaded PLGA Nanoparticles’ with the support of TUBITAK 2209-B. She is working on antimicrobial peptide-based, bacteria-targeted polymeric nanoparticles for her master's thesis funded by TUBITAK 2210-C. She mainly works on polymeric nanoparticles as well as on various nanoparticle carrier systems such as protein nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles, and supramolecular complexes.
MSc. Yiğit Can Baycılı

He graduated from Yıldız Technical University, Faculty of Science and Letters, Department of Chemistry in June 2018. In September 2019, he started to study MSc. degree in Biochemistry from Yildiz Technical University. He also study Derman's Research Group.
MSc. Cansu Gülcan
She graduated from Istanbul Bilgi University, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Genetics and Bioengineering in 2018. In 2022, she received MSc degree from Department of Bioengineering, Yildiz Technical University. Her MSc thesis supported by TÜBİTAK 2210-C scholarship. She is interested in electrospinning, nanofiber production, polymeric biomaterials and wound healing materials.

Fulya Geyik
She is studying in the Chemical Engineering Department and Bioengineering Department at Yıldız Technical University. She is continuing her undergraduate thesis with the support of TUBITAK 2209-B. For her bachelor thesis, she works on the production of electrospinning polymer based wound healing material.


Çilem Özdemir
She is studying in the Molecular Biology and Genetics Department at Yıldız Technical University. She is continuing her undergraduate thesis with the support of TUBITAK 2209-B. For her bachelor thesis, she works on the biosythesis of silver nanoparticles and research these nanoparticles antimicrobial activities.

Kazım Hariri
Kazım has graduated from the Department of Bioengineering at Yıldız Technical University in 2020. For his Bachelor's degree thesis, he worked on developing polymeric micellar nanoformulations to increase the bioavailability of natural products with pharmaceutical potential. In 2021, he started pursuing his Master's degree at the same program.
ALUMNI

MSc. Saliha Durak
She has completed her bachelor's degree in 2015 and master's degree in 2017 at Yildiz Technical University Bioengineering Department. In 2018, she received her second master's degree in Biomedical Engineering. Currently, she is a Ph.D. student in Molecular Biology, Genetics and Bioengineering Department at Sabancı University within the scope of TUBITAK 2244 project.

MSc. Yağmur Bozkurt
She is working cancer targeted polymeric nanoparticles for her master thesis which is funded by TUBITAK 2210-C. For her bachelor thesis, She has worked on digital image processing of fundus images. Beside her thesis, She is working on diabetic animal models and green synthesis as a part of her master study.
MSc. Yağmur Bozkurt has been accepted as a Marie-Curie Fellow to be a part of a PMSMatTrain Project for comprehensive understanding of the progressive phase of multiple sclerosis funded by the Horizon 2020 programme of the European Union. She will be working as an Early Stage Researcher in Centre for Research in Medical Devices, CÚRAM, under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Initial Training Network. At the same time, she will be a PhD student of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering Program in National University of Ireland, Galway.

Zeynep Demirtaş
She is studying in the Bioengineering Department at Yıldız Technical University. She is continuing her undergraduate thesis with the support of TUBITAK 2209-B. She works on protein nanoparticles loaded with an antioxidant molecule for her bachelor thesis.

Neşe Evcil
She graduated from Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Biomedical Engineering in June 2018. She completed her undergraduate education with the first place in the faculty. She started MSc program in Bioengineering at Yıldız Technical University in January 2020. She is working on her master's thesis funded by TUBITAK 2210-C. She works on mammalian cell culture, parasitology and metallic nanoparticles.
Seher Ar
She received her bachelor’s degree from Yıldız Technical University Department of Bioengineering in June 2020. For her undergraduate thesis, she studied biopolymer extraction from natural resources and wound dressing design. She started her master’s education in September 2020. She is working on polymeric micelles for drug delivery systems as a master’s thesis supported by TUBITAK 2210-C.
